A company’s name, CUI, address, CAEN code, status and financial statements can be consulted for free. For sales, however, you need a phone number or an email address that works today and a file you can use straight away, without days of cleaning.
Free for checks, cleaned for sales.
See what a selection contains →In short: public data on Romanian companies is free: from ONRC (including the open datasets on data.gov.ro) you get the name, CUI, registered office, company status and authorised activities, from the Ministry of Finance the financial statements, from ANAF the VAT status and fiscal inactivity, and from the Insolvency Proceedings Bulletin (BPI) the insolvencies. The open datasets, however, contain no phone, email or website, and the contact details declared at registration are not updated. For prospecting you need contact details that are valid today and a list filtered by CAEN code, county and size, which you receive directly in Excel.

Sources checked on 26.10.2026: the “Companies registered with the Trade Register” dataset on data.gov.ro (ONRC) and the ONRC, Ministry of Finance and ANAF portals.
They are not in the open files. The ONRC datasets on data.gov.ro contain the company’s name, address, status and activities, but no column for phone, email or website.
They date from incorporation. Contact details declared at registration often belong to the lawyer or consultant who set up the company: the same phone number and email for dozens of companies.
They are not updated. A mobile number that was correct at incorporation may since have been changed by the director, and the register does not find out.
The files need cleaning. Fields are separated by “^”, the address is split into 12 columns, diacritics are written differently from one record to another and some old companies show CUI 0. Before any import into a CRM, the file has to be cleaned.
The same companies, ready for sales.
If you want to check a specific company, count the companies in a field for a market analysis or carry out a study, the free sources are enough and you do not need to buy anything. On Firmeo, checking a company by CUI is free, and the company barometer shows how many companies are set up and how many are deregistered. A paid list is worth it when you want to contact the companies: that is when current contact details and the time saved on cleaning matter.
