Company barometer for Romania

Quarterly statistics on companies in Romania and the Republic of Moldova — official ONRC and ASP data

Companies in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, in official figures

Once a quarter we publish how many companies were registered, deregistered and entered insolvency in Romania, by county and by field of activity, from the statistics of the Trade Register (ONRC), and how many companies are registered in the Republic of Moldova, by district and legal form, from the register of the Public Services Agency (ASP). Once a year we add the report on the turnover, profit and employees of Romanian companies, from the financial statements published by the Ministry of Finance. Each edition has its own page and remains published.

Data sources. Romania: the official monthly statistics of the National Trade Register Office (ONRC). Annual report: the financial statements published by the Ministry of Finance on data.gov.ro. Republic of Moldova: the monthly tables of the Public Services Agency (ASP), open data on www.date.gov.md. Firmeo does not change the figures: it sorts them by county and field and calculates the change from the previous year. The next edition appears after ONRC publishes the data for the quarter.

Company Barometer

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about the barometer and its sources.

What is the Company Barometer?

A Firmeo publication with the official figures on companies in Romania and the Republic of Moldova: how many are set up, how many are deregistered and how many enter insolvency, by county, district and field of activity.

How often is a new edition published?

The Romania edition is published quarterly, after the Trade Register statistics. The annual report on turnover, profit and employees is published after the Ministry of Finance releases the balance sheets. The Republic of Moldova edition follows the data of the Public Services Agency.

Where do the figures come from?

From the statistics of the National Trade Register Office (ONRC), from the balance sheets published by the Ministry of Finance on data.gov.ro and, for the Republic of Moldova, from the register of the Public Services Agency (ASP), published on date.gov.md.

Do older editions remain available?

Yes. Each edition has its own page and remains published, so you can compare periods.

What is the difference between registration, deregistration and insolvency?

Registration is the entry of a new company in the Trade Register. Deregistration is the removal of the company from the register, after which it no longer exists legally. Insolvency is the procedure opened by a court when the company can no longer pay its debts: the company still exists and may be reorganised or liquidated.

Does the barometer also cover the Republic of Moldova?

Yes, in a separate edition: the number of companies registered in the Republic of Moldova, by district and legal form, from the register of the Public Services Agency.
