How to do B2B prospecting in Romania

Step-by-step guide: where to find leads, how to choose them and how to contact them legally

Your customers already exist. You just need to know where to look for them.

Data on Romanian companies is public: field of activity, county, turnover, number of employees, who runs them. Good prospecting does not mean calling at random, but choosing the companies that actually need what you sell.

Fewer calls, but to the right companies.

In short: B2B prospecting in Romania takes five steps: (1) you define the ideal customer by CAEN code, county, turnover and number of employees; (2) you build the list from official sources, for example a Firmeo selection exported to Excel; (3) you check the companies (active, no large debts to ANAF); (4) you contact them through a permitted channel: phone calls by a person or post, and email only with the recipient’s consent (Romanian Law 506/2004, Art. 12); (5) you track every contact in a CRM. You find B2B leads in company databases built from the official registers, in the list of newly established companies, in contract award notices from public tenders and on LinkedIn, for the decision maker.

B2B prospecting, step by step

The same process, whether you sell software, services or equipment.

1

Define the ideal customer

Which field (CAEN code), which area (county, town), which size (turnover, number of employees). Look at your best current customers: what do they have in common?

2

Build the list

You filter active companies by these criteria and export the list to Excel. At Firmeo you pay only for the selection, with no subscription, and you see the price before ordering.

3

Check the companies

Remove companies that are inactive, insolvent or have large debts to the state. A check by CUI is free on Firmeo.

4

Contact them legally

Phone calls by a person or offers by post: allowed, provided you inform the person contacted. Marketing email and SMS: only with prior consent. Details in the GDPR guide.

5

Track and repeat

Record every contact in a CRM: who replied, what they asked for, when you follow up. Company data can go straight into your CRM through the API.

Where to find B2B leads in Romania

Five sources, each good for something different.

Company databases

  • from the Trade Register, ANAF, the Ministry of Finance
  • filter by CAEN code, county, turnover
  • contact details where available

Newly established companies

  • they need an accountant, a bank, IT, premises, marketing
  • new ones appear every day
  • the list on Firmeo

Public tenders

  • winners have contracts and budgets
  • they look for subcontractors and suppliers
  • email alerts

LinkedIn

  • find the decision maker
  • see what the company posts
  • direct, one-to-one contact

Events and referrals

  • trade fairs, chambers of commerce, associations
  • referrals from current customers
  • the warmest leads

Signs that a company needs you now

It has just been established. A new company has to choose an accountant, a bank, suppliers, a website, insurance. Whoever gets there first has an advantage.

It has won a tender. It has a contract to deliver and a budget: it is looking for subcontractors, equipment, transport.

Its turnover or headcount has grown. It is expanding, so it needs more: space, software, people, consultancy. You can see the financial indicators in the company profile.

Mistakes that burn your list

A list that is too broad. “All companies in Bucharest” means hundreds of thousands of calls. Narrow it down by CAEN code and size.

Emails sent without consent. Law 506/2004 requires prior consent for company addresses too. Use the phone or post for the first contact.

Outdated data. Check the company’s status before contacting it: deregistered or insolvent companies do not buy.

No follow-up. Most B2B sales do not close at the first contact. Take notes and follow up.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how to find and contact new customers.

How do I do B2B prospecting in Romania?

You define the ideal customer (CAEN code, county, turnover, number of employees), build the list from official sources, check the companies, contact them by phone or post (marketing email requires the recipient’s consent) and track every contact in a CRM. On Firmeo you can build the list by these criteria and receive it in Excel immediately after payment.

Where can I find B2B leads in Romania?

In company databases built from the official registers (the Trade Register, ANAF, the Ministry of Finance), in the list of newly established companies, in contract award notices from public tenders, on LinkedIn for the decision maker and at business events. Firmeo offers the first three, with filters by CAEN code and county.

Can I buy a list of B2B leads?

Yes. On Firmeo you choose the criteria (county, CAEN code, turnover, number of employees, contact details), see the price before ordering and receive the list in Excel by email immediately after the payment is confirmed. No subscription is needed.

Can I send prospecting emails to the companies in the list?

Not without their prior consent: Romanian Law 506/2004 (Art. 12) requires consent for commercial communications by email, including to companies. You make the first contact by phone or post and ask for consent to email. Details in the GDPR guide for databases.

How do I choose the right companies for prospecting?

Start from your best current customers: which field, which area, what size they are. Then filter active companies by CAEN code, county, turnover and number of employees. Good signals: newly established companies, tender winners, companies with growing turnover.

How do I check a company before contacting it?

Look the company up by CUI on Firmeo, for free: you see whether it is active, whether it has debts to ANAF, whether it is VAT-registered and a summary of its latest financial statements.
